Hello friends! Fantastic paper! Your point about adult learning as a tool for psychological stability is fascinating! It reminds me of the concept of something called The Web of Support, which is a community-wide initiative being unrolled in Muncie. The Web of Support uses research that says that people need at least five supportive individuals in their lives to reach their full potential and to remain resilient to forces that contribute to negative outcomes. Based on your research, it appears that when adults receive education, it provides a form of that support system I mentioned. I work for a nonprofit that is helping implement Web of Support thinking into local organizations and educational institutions and this has really helped me spark some ideas about the benefits of a strong support system for adults. I particularly liked your analysis of Interview #2, in terms of ROI with regard to government funded learning opportunities, which are typically focused on developing individuals as contributing members of society. It is unfortunate that other efforts to improve society as a whole - social justice, community development, and personal growth - do not receive the same amount of support, despite the obvious benefits for everyone involved. You show this to be true later on in the paper with the discussion about the psychological benefits for the adult learner. All in all, great job!
